Free hearse services by Lucknow's Sikh community is assuring dignified goodbyes for COVID victims

Known all across the globe for their altruistic deeds, the Sikh community has now come forward to ensure reverent goodbyes for COVID victims in Lucknow. On Wednesday, the Lucknow Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (LGPC) started a free hearse service, in collaboration with Ummeed and Insaniyat Foundations, two social organisations from the city. Amidst the pandemic, the community has also been involved in the free distribution of necessities through food and mask langar in other parts of the state too.

COVID-19 tally crosses the 5k mark in Lucknow: Highest ever, 5382 test positive on Tuesday

On Tuesday, Lucknow's COVID tally reported yet another peak, exceeding the 5,000 mark. About 5382 test positive for the virus infection here, mounting the total caseload to 1,16,668 here. Amid this spiralling surge, the state government announced that all government and non-government schools in Lucknow and other UP districts to remain closed until April 30. However, all exams will be conducted as per announced schedules and all teaching and non-teaching staff will continue to attend their respective institutes.
