Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally passed the proposal to construct a 1.65 km flyover from Juhu Ville Parle Development (JVPD) scheme circle to Mayor Hall, situated at Barfiwala road. Once this flyover is constructed, Mumbaikars will be able to get from Juhu to Western Express Highway in just 10 minutes, a journey that currently takes around 45 minutes.
Constructing this four-lane flyover will take around 36 months
Excluding monsoon months, the construction of this four-lane flyover will take around three years, as per civic officials. The planning to build the new Juhu flyover had begun way back in 2016 but the work on the project was left on a pause as there was no keen interest shown from anyone on previous tenders floated for the same by BMC.
After making numerous modifications to the project cost, which was projected at Rs 414.10 crore, BMC had put out fresh tenders on September 29, 2022. The bid for the project has now been finalized at Rs 436.29 crore, which adds to Rs 87 crore paid for consultancy and Rs 11.16 crore paid to the Airport Authority of India, on whose land the pillars for the flyover will be constructed.
The flyover is an attempt to solve the Juhu Circle traffic woes
The perpetual traffic jams at Juhu Circle have long been a cause of worry for city officials and locals alike. The junction sees a heavy flow of traffic round-the-clock and the sheer number of vehicles results in bumper to bumper traffic on all roads leading to the circle.
Several steps, like red lights lasting several minutes and long waiting time, had been taken to ease traffic at the circle, to no avail. But this new Juhu flyover, once constructed, might solve the Juhu circle traffic woes for good.
