Have you ever found an abandoned old person on the roadside or at a bus station and thought of helping them? Well now, you can call the newly-launched Elder Line 14567 and a team will arrive at the spot to rescue the destitute elderly and take them to an old-age home.
There are approximately 18 million homeless elderly persons in India
According to the Longitudinal Ageing Survey of India 2020, India has nearly 18 million homeless elderly people. Naturally, a significant chunk of them are in the country’s largest state, i.e., Uttar Pradesh.
Furthermore, there are currently 75 government-run old age homes in UP, with one in each district. And with the newly-launched ‘Elder Line’, more and more destitute old-age citizens will be admitted to these shelters and be provided the care that they need.
55 elderly people already rescued with the help of the hotline
It has hardly been a week and the UP Elder Line 14567 has already helped in rescuing a total of 55 destitute elderly people. Eight of these 55 have been rescued from Mirzapur alone and three from Kushinagar.
The hotline can help the authorities assimilate more impoverished elderly people in the state, with the necessary support from the populace. So, do remember the Elder Line 14567 and dial it as soon as you come across an abandoned old-age person who is in need of help.
