Promising to create a new ‘green lung’ for Mumbai, Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RIL) will develop 53 hectares (130 acres) of open space along the city’s Coastal Road into ‘Coastal Road Gardens’. This project is set to be executed at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore.
Announced by Nita Ambani at Reliance’s 48th Annual General Meeting, the project will feature gardens, walkways, cycling tracks, and plazas. It will be maintained by Reliance Foundation, under its CSR initiative for the next 30 years.
The project will take 1.5 years to complete

Ambani called the gardens a “green lung for generations”, with walkways, cycling tracks, plazas, and lush greenery, designed to balance development with sustainability while giving Mumbaikars space for leisure, fitness, and seaside sunsets.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier reclaimed 111 hectares of land for the Coastal Road, earmarking 70 hectares for gardens and promenades. While Tata Sons is beautifying five hectares, RIL emerged as the successful bidder for the remaining 53 hectares after the BMC invited private entities through an Expression of Interest (EOI).
According to BMC officials, the agreement with RIL is in its final stage, and once approved, design plans will be submitted. The project is expected to take around 1.5 years to complete, adding a new landmark green space to Mumbai’s coastline.
