Lucknow Metro has proved to be a sigh of relief for the Lucknowites. The footfall keeps growing everyday and the excitement is clearly visible on people’s faces. Yet, within the first week of its run, Lucknow Metro has come across several challenges, the most prominent of which are parking issues, demand for women’s coach and last mile connectivity.

Demand for Women’s Coach
LMRC’s Lucknow Metro, unlike the legendary Delhi Metro does not offer a separate coach for women and this has become quite a hassle for women. “It is inconvenient for some women who do not feel safe travelling through the metro at odd hours. It especially becomes a problem during peak hours when there is a lot of rush,” Aaliya Naem, a resident of Hazratganj told Knocksense.
The presence of a separate coach makes most women feel safer and more comfortable travelling through the metro.

Feeder service for last mile connectivity
People are elated about their new quick and comfortable mode of transportation but have started feeling the need of the missing last mile connectivity. Passengers have to depend on cycle rickshaws, e-rickshaws, auto and tempo for completing their commute. These, not only prove to be a big inconvenience but also hamper the flow of traffic.
“Auto walas are our biggest problem. They charge whatever they want to and refuse to go by the meter. Metro should have dedicated buses to save us from this,” Vivek Sahni the resident of Indira Nagar said.

What is LMRC doing?
Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation is in talks to introduce a dedicated E-rickshaw service to tackle with the last mile connectivity issue. These e-rickshaws will be managed by a private firm and are expected to have a GPS tracker and swipe machine. It is also being said that passengers will be able to book these e-rickshaws through the LMRC app or through the customer service counters.

Parking Issues
The newly introduced metro is also under scrutiny because of the lack of dedicated parking spaces. The absence of parking facility has led to a massive issue of encroachment. Passengers, autos, rickshaws, cabs and tempos gather around metro stations waiting for their ‘sawaari’, occupying a major chunk of the roads. These have already become the reason of jams and road blocks.

Knock Knock
LMRC is also planning to introduce the east-west corridor soon. The metro is here to make our lives comfortable, which is why it is very important to tackle the ongoing issues.
