Lucknow Municipal Corporation has initiated a massive plantation drive to increase the green cover in Lucknow. Under the ambit of this ‘Green Drive’ project, the administration aims to plant 36 lakh saplings across the city. This intensive afforestation drive will be carried out within 5 kilometres of area on the banks of the Ganga.

After a meeting with the forest department officials, Lucknow’s District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash gave a nod to this plantation drive in the city. As a part of this afforestation drive, authorities have requested city folks to plant at least one sapling per family in their area to make the city more eco-friendly. The public is free to plant saplings in community lands or parks across the city.
The DM took to his Twitter account to encourage people to come forward and contribute to this drive to make Lucknow the ‘Greenest City’ in the country. According to officials, citizens have been requested to plant medicinal plants and upload them on the ‘My Tree’ application which is equipped with GPS tracking technology.
Amrit Van to come up at Lucknow schools

In addition to this, the schools in the city have also been directed to plant 15 to 20 trees under the ambit of this afforestation drive. Meanwhile, government offices have been asked to plant 75 saplings in 5000 schools. Planted as a part of the celebration for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, this area in schools with 75 trees will be known as Amrit Van.
