Paying homage to the ‘Flying Sikh of India’, the athletic stadium at Bambolim Village in Goa will be renamed after the ace sprinter late Milkha Singh. As per reports, the Chief Minister announced this decision on Friday, as a tribute to the legendary athlete, who is famed across the world. Reportedly, the state government is also planning to rename other stadiums and sports centres, after remarkable Goan sportspersons who have made a mark for themselves.
State’s vision to boost sports activities in Goa
The latest announcements were made by the CM at a felicitation function held at Campal Indoor Stadium in the coastal state. While sportspersons and athletes were honoured at this event, the CM also declared the state’s plan to rename the prominent sports hubs. Reportedly, he mentioned that the state government has successfully established sports infrastructure worth ₹300 crores.
While the added facilities will aid in the development of amateurs, they will inspire more young folks to explore the field of sports. Further, the CM asked the physical education teachers in schools and colleges to execute such measures, which can motivate the students for taking up sports activities. Additionally, they should also be made aware of the needs and benefits of physical fitness.
