Indore is leaving no stone underturned in its efforts to win the “Swachh Survekshan” 2021. The city is determined towards adding another accomplishment to its streak of being the cleanest city in the country for four consecutive years. To this end, Indore Municipal Corporation is implementing multiple initiatives. Consequently, the streets of the city are being adorned with bright lights and the walls have already been covered with captivating artworks.
Aspirations of repeating history ‘again’
The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has been organising the globe’s biggest survey programme for analysing the levels of sanitation and cleanliness across different urbanised regions of the country since 2016. Indore has continuously outperformed all other Indian cities in the past four years. The contest has been announced for this year and the application process for the competing cities will be closed by 11:45 pm on 31st March.
As per reports, the Municipal Commissioner asserted that she feels confident about the fact that the residents would make sure that Indore wins the award for the fifth time. She added that cleanliness is a multi-faceted issue that includes preservation and beautification in equal measures. The Swachh Survekshan takes into consideration multiple criteria like these, while assessing the performance of the cities.
Multiple interventions to enhance Indore’s beauty
Indore has witnessed a string of interventions in the recent past, that have amplified its beauty. The drains in the city have been cleaned while nets and saplings have been planted alongside, to enhance their appearance. Additionally, the city administration has constructed a number of public toilets.
To make sure that people do not litter waste on the roads from moving cars, IMC has also installed a distribution point at Palasia intersection where car dustbins, eco-friendly straws, cloth bags, containers for making compost will be available on rent-basis. Not only have the parks across the city been revamped but the civic body has also established an ‘eco mart’ for storing plastic products that can be recycled.
With the aforesaid steps, the Indore Municipal Corporation has checked all boxes included in the Sawchh Survekshan. Through its achievements in the past, Indore has become a source of inspiration for all other cities. The city is hopeful about its victory this year too.
