Heavy rain has left several parts of Ahmedabad waterlogged, with East Ahmedabad among the worst affected areas. Traffic movement has been hit at several points, while the Mohammadpura underbridge on the Sardar Patel Ring Road (SPRR) has been closed due to water accumulation. The city has been witnessing a fresh spell of heavy rain, with the India Meteorological Department warning of further intense rainfall in Gujarat.
Hatkeshwar temple complex closed
Water entered the Khodiyar Temple complex near Hatkeshwar Circle, forcing authorities to temporarily stop darshan for devotees. Waterlogging was also reported across parts of the Bhaipura-Hatkeshwar and Khokhra wards, affecting residents and motorists.
132-foot Ring Road sees waterlogging
The Udgam Archana High School campus in Bhaipura-Hatkeshwar was inundated following the heavy rain. Several stretches between Hatkeshwar’s 132-foot Ring Road and Guruji Bridge also reported water accumulation. Low-lying residential societies near the Kharicut Canal were affected as well. The latest waterlogging comes after several other parts of Ahmedabad, including Gota, Nikol, Ranip and Naroda, reported similar disruption during the city’s recent heavy showers.
Traffic jams trigger emergency calls
The waterlogging has also slowed traffic across the city. Authorities received 28 calls on 112 and 37 calls on 1095 regarding traffic jams linked to waterlogged roads. Several underpasses across Ahmedabad have also faced flooding during the current spell.
Three Vasna Barrage gates opened
To manage the rising water level, three gates of Vasna Barrage have been opened by 1.5 feet. The Sabarmati’s water level is currently around 129 feet. Authorities are aiming to bring the level down to around 126 feet to help prevent further water accumulation in the city. With more heavy rain forecast, commuters may want to check road conditions before heading out, particularly around underpasses and low-lying stretches\.
