AMC gets green signal for Panjrapole Junction Flyover; to connect Ambawadi and IIM Road
The construction of the proposed flyover at Panjrapole Junction in Ahmedabad is now finally set to proceed, following a pivotal ruling by the Gujarat High Court. The court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that had sought to halt construction due to environmental concerns and questions regarding the contractor’s credentials.
The PIL raised alarms about the potential removal of trees and other environmental impacts. However, the bench, led by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Pranav Trivedi, determined that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) decision, based on expert reports, could not be overturned. The court emphasised that delaying the project further would escalate costs and adversely affect public interests.
Acknowledging environmental concerns, the AMC has committed to planting 30 lakh trees across Ahmedabad to mitigate the ecological impact. The flyover, which will connect Ambawadi and IIM Road, promises to bring significant relief to approximately 1.5 lakh commuters who grapple with heavy traffic congestion daily.
