Railway Ministry shares detailed update on India's Bullet train project

As per the update, the overall physical progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project was reported to be at 26.33% as of February 28, 2023.

If you have been rather curious about the status of India's much-anticipated Bullet train project, there's news for you. The Indian Railway Ministry recently released a comprehensive update on the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train corridor which is presently under development.

As per the latest update released by the Indian Railway Ministry via its official Twitter handle, the overall physical progress of the bullet train project was reported to be at 26.33% as of February 28, 2023.

Construction kicks off for the Bandra-Kurla Complex Station development

The ministry's update further highlighted that the state of Maharashtra has completed approximately 13.72% of the total work required for the project. Meanwhile, Gujarat has made significant progress in the civil work area, with more than 52% of the work already completed, and an overall completion rate of 36.93%.

In addition, a joint venture of Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd has recently won the contract for the construction of Bandra-Kurla Complex Station as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project.

Reportedly, the station will be the only underground station on the high-speed rail corridor which will be constructed at a depth of 24 meters (approx.) below ground level, and its development is now underway

Earlier this Feb, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to Twitter sharing insightful pictures of the ongoing construction work and highlighted the "24x7x365 work" happening on the project. Additionally, Vaishnaw shared data showing the progress made on the elevated route between February 23 and 26.

Reportedly, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project is scheduled to start operations in 2027, with a trial run planned between Surat and Billimora in Gujarat in August 2026.
