Of late, we haven’t been hearing too much about Jaipur metro’s Phase II. Following the mild success of Phase IA of Jaipur metro, the authorities are still in the planning stage of Phase II. Now, it has been revealed that a large chunk of the 24-kilometre route will be elevated to keep the metro as cost-effective as possible. Phase II of Jaipur metro is set to connect areas between Ambabari to Sitapur, among other areas.

What’s the Update?
Since the cost for digging underground tunnels, placing tracks and other infrastructure is on the higher side, the authorities in charge of Jaipur metro are planning to cut down a few expenses.
In case you were wondering just how steep the difference is, it takes over ₹500 crores to construct an underground metro, but about ₹300 crores less to make an elevated one, bringing the cost to around ₹200 crores.
As of now, the cost of the entire Jaipur metro phase II project stands at a bit over 10,000 crores, which is an unfathomable number actually. If the plan for the elevation of metro tracks is approved, the final cost of the metro phase II will be cut down by at least 40%, reports suggest.

What other plans?
Phase II of Jaipur metro is probably one of the most ambitious projects. The longest route (yet) of the intra-city metro, it basically brings together two ends of the city.
In a bid to save money, the authorities are also planning to construct a 10-kilometre corridor that will be completely elevated. This route is expected to connect areas between Sansar Chand Road and SMS Hospital.
