Heavy rainfall predicted in Goa; IMD issues orange alert'

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Goa, as the state recorded its wettest September day on Sunday. Noteworthily, the warning will be in force here till Tuesday, despite the likeliness of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated regions until Wednesday. Sparse and scattered rains can be also be expected until the end of this week, read reports.

A reactivated monsoon takes over Goa

Goa experienced its wettest 24 hours on Monday, with the state capital catching up about 68.8.mm of rain. On the other hand, Ponda received the highest impact of the intensified rain spell and reportedly recorded the state's heaviest rainfall of 78mm during the same time graph. As per the latest IMD reports, several regions of the state received moderate to heavy rains in the last 24 hours, marking turbulent weather here.

Most places in North Goa and several others in South Goa districts received moderate spells of rain with short intense spells early on Tuesday morning. These were accompanied by speedy winds of around 40-45 kmph, as warned by the IMD. The nimbus cover is a result of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, informed a scientist at the Panjim observatory.
