Last year in August, India’s PM Modi launched the FIt India Movement to motivate people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives. Following this launch, schools in Goa have adopted several measures to keep up with it and for the upcoming month, students will be encouraged to take nap breaks while in school.
All along the month of February, schools were requested to observe ‘Magic Mondays’, where different genres of sports would be organized for students. This venture also saw the profiling of each student’s physical characteristics and a list of their eating habits were drafted as well. For the month of March, here’s what’s happening!

Goan institutions will be observing ‘mental fitness week’ in March, where students will be prompted to take a nap break in school for five minutes. As a substantial part of the current Fit India Movement, school authorities have already been instructed to make exercising a part of the students’ daily routine.
This ‘five-minute dream’ is part of the mindfulness activities recommended to schools by Goa’s education management and school authorities have also been designated with a monthly theme of activities which are to be followed.
This upcoming month, students will be given time to indulge in mind-stimulating activities like solving puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku challenges and puns. Apart from this, the institutes will be conducting meditation sessions to boost the productivity of the pupils and it’ll also serve as a break from their monotonous study routines.
Knock Knock
In April, schools will be conducting a PT drill where teachers and school staff will also have to participate along with the students. It has also been suggested, that the schools should ring a ten-minute ‘exercise’ bell, which would act as a green signal for the pupils to partake in simple stretching exercises during this period.
A circular issued by the director of education, Vandana Rao, talks about the activities that schools should permit when the institutes reopen for the new academic year and during June, Fit India Literary Week will be hosted, with essay contests and articles focused on hygiene, food and nutrition.
