A new bridge is all set to channel in place of the 40-year-old Borie Pul over the Agonda River in Goa, paving the way for upgraded roadways in the state. As per reports, the construction work will begin after the demolition of the Portuguese-era bridge is completed. The razing work has notably been in motion for almost a week now and is likely to finish soon.

The new bridge would ease the ride and shorten the distance for the commuters to Agonda beach from the Khola side. It would also increase the connectivity for the residents of Davalkhazan by providing them with the shortest route to Agonda beach. The bridge that was earlier used by two-wheelers and sometimes light four-wheelers would be constructed at a cost of ₹70 lakh.
The newly constructed bridge would be equipped with a 6-meter double-span (box cell) culvert to enable traffic from either end. Once shaped up, the bridge would provide the shortest route to the Agonda beach from the village main road from the Khola side.
The demolition of the old bridge was started by the second week of January, however, it was halted temporarily due to the BSNL telecom cable that was under the old Borie Pul. The demolition work was recently initiated after BSNL moved the cable from the site. The project is expected to complete within six months from the start of construction, officials added.
