Of course we relate Goa to drinking like a fish at rave parties, basking in the sun at serene beaches and the other mainstream activities around. But if you are here, we’d suggest you to traverse around like an explorer and not a tourist for a day and you’ll be surprised with the hidden gems here!
On a similar note, we chanced upon this ‘bubbling’ lake which is also known as the Budbudyanchi Tali or Budbud Talli and it was a mind-bubbling experience on a summer evening! If you clap, make a sound or maybe frisk around the water, you can notice bigger bubbles on the surface- something different from the regular lakes we see!

What’s Bubbling?
Tucked away in the middle of spice farms, in the village of Netravali, Sanguem, this ‘lake’ is actually more of a pond and we’re assuming that it been constructed 300-400 years back. The road which leads up to this hidden locale is nothing short of scenic so you ca, plan a day here, amidst the welcoming laps of nature!
It is a freshwater lake which gets its water source from the underground springs and has an outlet at one end from where the farmers utilize it for irrigation. The origin of the bubbles is unknown but some claim that they are divine whilst others say that they are due to carbon or sulphur dioxide gas emissions. Localites also claim that the acoustics have something to do with the formation of the bubbles, however there are no scientific explanations!
This lake is attached to the Gopinath temple and it appears to be green and clean enough for you to dip your feet in it. This water body also houses tiger fish which are used for ‘fish pedicure’ in certain nail salons so you’ll score a free feet cleansing session too, keeping the tickles aside! The lake is open all days of the week from 8am to 8pm and the best time to visit would be during the cooler months (October to March) or during the monsoon season to relish the verdant scenery while sniffing the petrichor.
In this vicinity, you can also tread towards the Usgalimal Stone Age rock carvings which have a substantial archaeological and historical significance. The carvings are quite unique and pre-date all else in Goa, so if you’re here, it’ll be a field day for your camera. Other aquatic attractions in this area include the Salaulim dam and the Savari and Mainapi waterfalls which are worth a visit if you’re looking for an experience which isn’t too mainstream Goan.

Location: The village of Netravali, lies in the Sanguem Taluka of South Goa. The village where the Budbudyachi Tali lies is about 80kms from Panaji and 50kms from Margao.
