Indore records 136 new Covid-19 cases, highest in a month

District administrations caps number of guests to weddings and funerals to 20 in Indore

The most populous city of Madhya Pradesh reported around 136 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, which has also been recorded as the city's highest since the last month. With this number, Indore has also reported maximum number of cases in Madhya Pradesh for two consecutive days. The city of Indore has emerged as the worst hit cities in the state, with the most number of active cases(1338).

Indore reports most number of active cases in MP

With 136 coronavirus cases reported on Thursday, Indore has become the worst hit city in Madhya Pradesh. At present the city has about 5,761 confirmed cases with 1338 active cases. Not just that, the city also stands at number one in the list of recoveries. Out of the total 5,761 cases that have been reported in the city since its outbreak on April 26, as many as 4139 people have recovered from the deadly infection in Indore. The recovery rate in Indore borders 73%, which is higher than the state's collective average of 69%.

In an attempt to restrain the growth of coronavirus in the city, the district administration have limited the number of guests attending wedding and funeral ceremonies in the state. According to the new order of the District Collector, only 20 people are allowed to participate in weddings and funerals. This order was issued in the wake of the 136 new cases reported in Indore in less than 24 hours. While 10 people are allowed to attend family functions such as birthdays and anniversaries, all other religious and public ceremonies have been cancelled and banned in the city.

As Indore continues to deal with increasing number of coronavirus cases, the testing capacities and medical health facilities of the city are being pushed to identify and curb the spread of infection in the city. Indoris are requested to follow the safety norms of social distancing, in order to fight this battle against a global pandemic.
