Indore is sweltering under an unprecedented early April heatwave, with temperatures hitting 40.6°C on Monday, 3 degrees above normal and the first 40+ reading in early April since 2013. Residents battled exhaustion as hot winds swept through the city, part of a wider heat surge across Madhya Pradesh where 14 cities crossed 40°C, including Ratlam (42.6°C).

IMD scientists warn the Rajasthan-bordering districts, including Indore, will face persistent heatwaves until April 15, with temperatures potentially touching 45°C later this month. While brief relief may come from a western disturbance around April 8-10, the IMD predicts 7-10 heatwave days in April alone.

Experts warn that Indore and neighbouring regions could see daytime highs touching 44°C later in April, accompanied by warm nights. With no significant rainfall in sight, April is shaping up to be one of the hottest months for the city, a fiery preview of what lies ahead in May.
