The Uttar Pradesh government has been trying for a long time to improve the sports facilities in the state, guaranteeing better opportunities for sports enthusiasts. After the cabinet of the state government gave its approval for the State Sports University Bill 2021 draft, it is expected that Uttar Pradesh will soon have its first Sports university. Constituted with an objective to set up a sports infrastructure with the best practices, the university would boost the future of athletes in the state.
Preparing athletes for national and international competitions
As per officials, the new university would provide competent training to the athletes that would enable them to get ready for national and international level competitions. Proposed to be built at an approximate cost of ₹ 700 crores, the university will be established in the Salawa village in Sardhana Tehsil of Meerut district. The cost of construction will be borne by the state government completely. Further, the government spokesperson informed that there was a proposal to get the draft for expenses cleared by both the Houses of the state Legislature during the Budget Session.
Comprehensive curriculum based on theory and practicals
The bill has been cleared on Monday evening and once it is enacted, the by-laws for the sports university would be worked upon. According to the spokesperson's statements, the latest university would provide for both teaching and affiliation facilities and the degrees would be awarded based on a comprehensive curriculum of theory and practicals.
The university will admit students for graduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, MPhil and Ph.D. courses under physical education, health and applied sports sciences, sports management and technology, sports coaching, sports journalism, mass media technology, adventure sports and youth affairs.
