Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) is all set to wrap up its runway re-carpeting project, with 90% of the work completed. From July 16 to August 15, the remaining work will be carried out between 11 AM and 3 PM, reducing daily runway closure from six hours to just four. This means the airport will be operational for 20 hours a day, paving the way for increased flight movement.
Lucknow Airport set for 24-hour operations soon
The ongoing ₹200 crore upgrade at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, underway since March 1, includes construction of a new parallel taxiway (P-9), complete runway re-carpeting, and an upgraded airfield lighting system. Once finished, the enhanced runway will support safer landings in adverse weather conditions like rain and fog while enabling operations of larger aircraft such as Boeing 777s and Airbus A330s.
With expanded capacity, airlines are stepping up operations. Seven new flights are being added, linking Lucknow to key destinations like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Dubai. Indigo has already reinstated five flights previously suspended.
This is the airport’s most significant runway revamp since 2018 and is set to greatly improve operational efficiency, flight frequency, and passenger experience. By August 15, when the runway becomes fully operational around the clock, travellers can expect reduced delays, more departure slots, and broader connectivity
