Lucknow shivers in intense frigid temperatures, which drooped to the lower margins of 4.3°C on Saturday, marking the fourth consecutive day of temperature fall in the city. According to the Meteorological Department here, the city will freeze for one more day, today, with further dropping mercury to 3°C. As per forecasts, Lucknow is expected to experience slightly warmer temperatures come Monday, when mercury may rise by 2-3°C.

Enveloped in high cloud covers on Sunday, the sun fails to bring up the mercury in Lucknow, and the cold winds blowing from the north-west will accentuate the cold, rendering a chilly day throughout. The maximum temperatures are expected to remain caged at 19°C, which might not cross the threshold of 20°C mark.

Besides these low temperatures, the city's AQI has clocked over the index of 'hazardous' 414 units today. This deteriorating quality of breathing air poses a threat to the rise of respiratory and pulmonary infections in people, on prolonged exposure. It is advised to wear a face mask before stepping out to counter the impact of rising AQI, which may make the body vulnerable to the respiratory infection of SARs-CoV-2 causing COVID-19.
