Members of the St Peter’s Church in Bandra and residents of the area have appealed to quash a road widening ‘development plan’ prepared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The said plan involves widening a road and constructing it through the St Peter’s Cemetery, which would lead to displaced graves and the cemetery losing land.
Notably, members of the church had protested against the above-mentioned plans back in January 2023, after which the BMC had withdrawn the demand notice. However, the protestors are afraid that even the existence of such a ‘development plan’ can lead to the St Peter’s Cemetery losing land, anytime.
In response, the BMC says that there are no plans to widen the road as of now.
