The second phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, is nearing its launch. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) began inspecting the 9.77-km underground stretch from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk on April 8. This phase includes key stations like Dharavi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, and Worli, and could open to the public as early as next week.

A major engineering feat of this stretch is the 915-metre tunnel beneath the Mithi River, built using specially modified tunnel boring machines at a depth of 25 metres. Once operational, trains will cover a 22.5-km corridor from Aarey to Worli, easing congestion and improving north-south connectivity across Mumbai.

The final 13-km stretch, till Cuffe Parade, is expected to be completed by July 2025. Fares on the new route will range between ₹10 and ₹60. The expansion is set to boost access to major business hubs like SEEPZ and BKC, as well as cultural landmarks, including Siddhivinayak Temple and St. Michael’s Church.
