On August 13, Mumbai Metro One’s Blue Line, the city’s pioneering metro route spanning the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, achieved a remarkable milestone! The service transported 500,385 commuters in a single day, setting a new record in its ten-year history.
This achievement is particularly notable as it’s the first time the daily ridership has exceeded 500,000 without external factors, such as strikes, contributing to the surge.
Strategic upgrades propel Metro Blue Line to new ridership heights
Key stations like Andheri, Ghatkopar, Saki Naka, and Western Express Highway experienced the highest footfall, driven by their connections to suburban trains, Metro Lines 7 and 2A, and nearby commercial centers.
Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) officials credited this rise in ridership to a series of strategic enhancements, such as additional ticket counters, escalators, and seamless integration with new metro lines 2A and 7. They also highlighted the impact of initiatives like loyalty programs, corporate collaborations, and the promotion of digital payments in attracting more commuters.
With 430 daily trips and a peak-hour frequency of 3.5 minutes, the Blue Line has solidified its role as a crucial lifeline for the city. Focusing on operational efficiency and customer-focused innovations, Mumbai Metro One continues to revolutionise daily commutes for Mumbaikars.
