Measuring 19.15 metres each, 8 of the country’s tallest escalators are to be built at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Terminal 2 Metro Station. This will be adjacent to the International Airport Terminal on the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Underground Metro Line Three (Aqua Line).
414 escalators being installed over a 33.5 km-long route
The CSMIA Terminal 2 Metro Station is set to have fourteen escalators in total, with eight of them standing tall at a height of 19.15 meters each. A total of 414 escalators are now being installed over the 33.5 km-long route. Further, each of the underground stations will have an average of 15 escalators.
The upcoming escalators will surpass the current record held by the escalator at Janakpuri West Metro Station in Delhi, which stands at a height of 15.6 meters.
With this move, MMRC aims to improve connectivity between Mumbai Airport’s domestic and international terminals, as well as with BKC’s important financial areas.

Moreover, Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced installation plans of Mumbai’s first-ever ‘travelator’. This moving walkway platform will transfer commuters between the monorail station at Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk and Mahalaxmi Railway Station and the underground Metro Station.
