The availability of suitable disaster management and relief facilities is crucial in every city and its nearby rural areas. Equally important is having skilled rescue personnel and disaster relief teams to efficiently respond to emergencies and provide assistance.
Therefore, with a motive to train individuals in disaster relief, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to establish a disaster relief training centre in the state. Along with this, the government also intends to set up cutting-edge disaster warning systems and Emergency Operation Centres in multiple cities. These initiatives are aimed to ensure foolproof disaster preparedness in the state.
Hi-tech disaster warning systems to be set up in all 75 districts
The unpredictable nature of these calamities makes all areas vulnerable to their adverse effects. In 2022-23, natural calamities caused the death of 301 people across 52 districts in Uttar Pradesh. This year, the number of casualties has reached 174 in 36 districts so far.
Reportedly, government officials have indicated that current technology allows for the detection of disasters like severe rainfall, floods, lightning strikes, storms and strong winds several hours before they occur. As a result, hi-tech warning systems will be established in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Additionally, public address systems will be installed in all gram panchayats and urban bodies, linked with these warning systems. The government will also promote the use of government-run apps, such as Damini and Meghdoot, which will provide weather warnings to alert citizens timely.
Computerized system to be developed for granting relief funds to victims
Calamities often lead to loss of property and even loss of life, leaving people in need of relief funds. In such cases, victims are entitled to receive assistance, but the process typically involves completing various formalities and physically visiting government offices to claim the relief amount.
To improve efficiency and provide prompt aid to the victims, the government aims to establish an end-to-end computerized relief management system. This system will streamline the entire process, starting from beneficiary selection to digital approval and direct transfer of funds to their accounts. As a result, the entire process will become paperless, reducing delays and making the relief distribution more efficient.
