New three-stage verification process to register pet dogs
To address the spread of rabies and increasing threats from pet dogs, the AMC is considering a three-stage verification process for dog owners. Registration of pet dogs has been mandatory since March 2024, and the process has been simplified.
The AMC has also decided to ban the registration of 25 dog breeds identified as ferocious and dangerous to human life. The sale and ownership of these breeds will not be allowed, but current owners can still get their pets registered.

In response to numerous requests for repeated changes to birth certificates, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has implemented a new rule permitting only one-time corrections.
The revised guidelines allow for a single amendment to a child’s name, parental details, or other information on the birth certificate. The updated software will now flag previous amendments, preventing any subsequent changes.
Female students dominate postgraduate admissions at CEPT University
CEPT University in Ahmedabad began its monsoon semester on Monday with 55% of its 475 postgraduate students being women. This marks the fourth consecutive year where women make up more than half of the postgraduate cohort.
The university admitted students across 18 programs in five faculties: Architecture, Planning, Technology, Design, and Management. The students come from 26 states and union territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Manipur.
Surge in international driving licence applications
According to RTO officials, the number of people obtaining international driving licences in Ahmedabad has surged dramatically over the past five years. The Subhash Bridge RTO issued 2,598 international driving licences in 2021, which increased to 6,559 in 2022 and 8,256 in 2023.
Visa and travel consultants noted that many tourists now opt to get an international driving licence before travelling to countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
No rain despite cloud cover, humid weather persists
An upper air cyclonic circulation near the Arabian Sea has stabilised over Saurashtra-Kutch, resulting in a lack of rainfall in Ahmedabad for the past 4 to 5 days despite persistent cloud cover. The city has received only 10 inches of rain this season, significantly lower than the average of 35 inches, marking a 72% shortfall.
Ahmedabad experienced some rainfall in the last week of June and mid-July, with around 4 inches of rain on June 29. However, the intensity of the rain diminished as the weather system weakened. Light to moderate rain is expected over the next four days. On Monday, the maximum temperature rose by 1 degree, reaching 34°C.
