Narendra Modi Stadium to host first women’s ODI
For the first time, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera will host international women’s ODI cricket matches. As part of the New Zealand Women’s Tour of India 2024, the matches will take place on the 24th, 27th, and 29th of October.
Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary Anil Patel highlighted that this initiative, led by BCCI Secretary, is part of a broader effort to promote women’s cricket. Entry will be free for children and families from various institutions.
City RTO mandates helmets for employees and visitors
In an effort to curb road accidents, the Ahmedabad RTO has made helmets mandatory for all its officers, employees, and visitors using two-wheelers. Starting the 22nd of October 2024, anyone entering the RTO office without a helmet will face legal action.
This step aligns with ongoing efforts by the police and transport authorities to enforce helmet use and reduce head injuries in road accidents across the city and state.
Relief for farmers as Gujarat’s weather set to dry up
After a week of unseasonal rains, the Meteorological Department has forecast dry weather across Gujarat within the next 24 hours. Temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3°C over the next five days. While Ahmedabad has already seen dry conditions for the past two days, light rain may continue in parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra.
Box cricket, play area, and decorative lighting to be developed under Ranip bridge
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has approved a plan to develop vacant spaces beneath overbridges across the city. Facilities like box cricket, indoor games, and children’s play areas will be built under bridges in areas like Ranip and GST.
This will be the first time box cricket is included in such a project. The development, which will cost ₹2.67 crores, aims to transform these spaces with gardens, seating areas, play equipment, decorative sculptures, and food stalls. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Akasa Air launches new Ahmedabad-Port Blair flight
Akasa Air is set to launch a new connecting flight between Ahmedabad and Port Blair via Kolkata, starting on 13th November. Departing from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 5:10 am, the flight will have a short layover in Kolkata before heading to Port Blair.
This new service is part of the airline’s winter schedule, offering greater connectivity to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
