Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium is set to pay tribute to Indian cricketing legends by naming stands after them. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that Indian team’s current Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar, and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar will each have a stand named in their honour.
This decision by the MCA aims to etch their names into the legacy of Indian cricket and preserve their contributions at one of the country’s most historic venues.
According to the update, the Divencha Pavilion Level 3 will be renamed after Rohit Sharma, acknowledging not only his remarkable career but also his roots in Mumbai cricket. Wankhede has long served as Sharma’s home ground, both in domestic cricket and as captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Grand Stand Level 3 will be named after Sharad Pawar, in recognition of his significant administrative role in shaping Indian cricket. The Grand Stand Level 4 will bear the name of Ajit Wadekar, honouring the legacy of the late cricketer who led India to historic overseas Test series wins.
