Though the Pink city is well known for its art, heritage and culture, the city is seeing a shift of sorts and that comes in the form of development. Jaipurites are keeping in touch with their roots, as the historical places are well maintained but now, the city evolving and becoming more of a smart city than ever before. With this in mind, here are some of the major routes that will be closed in the city to make way for smart roads.

What’s the update?
The main area where the traffic will be diverted, will be near the walled city of Jaipur. As part of this, commuters will have to gear themselves up for at least 60 days of congested roads. The work for the development of Chandpole road will begin in the next 15 days, till when travellers can enjoy the empty roads.
The during the entire 60 day process, the roads will be dug up, and cables, electricity wires and a new drainage system will be put in place. Though all these developments will help Jaipur in the long run, the transition phase is one that we are all dreading.

As of now, one such smart road has been built in the city. This one is located at Kishanpole market, within the walled city. It is interesting to see that the authorities are mainly focusing on getting the walled city in shape first because this is a harder task than converting the new city into a smart city.
Since the walled city is a major tourist attraction as well, they wish to revamp it as soon as they can. Though the tourism market will take a hit for the transition phase, the pay off is expected to be worth it.
Some of the ground work at Chandpole market itself has already begun and because of this, sides of roads are dug up and shop owners in the market are reporting a major dip in footfall at their shoppes.
Daily commuters too have been reporting traffic jams that are worse than ever. For them, there seems to be no respite even in the coming days as the entire road is set to be dug up. As of now, the authorities have not defined any bypass routes on how the major traffic issues can be averted, but they are likely to in the next two weeks.
At any rate, the transition of the Pink City into the Smart City is a reality and it is happening at a very fast rate. Though we are excited to see the city grow and be self sustainable, we are dreading the coming days and the transition phase.
