Amid the emergent fear of Omicron spread in Uttar Pradesh, the state is now witnessing a sudden spike in COVID cases too. As per reports, around 80 new cases were detected in UP on Tuesday, which is a 100% spike over the 40 cases traced on Monday. Consequently, in an order released by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad, UP has been declared as a COVID-19 affected state. This has intensified the threats of the possible third-wave soon.

The increased number of case spike can be attributed to ramped-up testing. According to the ACS Health, “In all, 1,93,896 Covid samples were tested in the past 24 hours and 80 of them came positive while 11 patients recovered.”
As per official records, of the new load, the maximum share of 28 cases was reported from Gautam Buddha Nagar, followed by 12 cases in Ghaziabad and 11 in Lucknow. A 14-year-old boy and a woman from Karkori are also included in this share. With this, UP’s active tally now stands at 392 cases. So far, the state has reported 17,11,049 coronavirus cases, along with 22,915 deaths, since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
69 Active cases in Lucknow
Speaking about state capital Lucknow, Abhishek Shukla, Secretary-General of Association of International Doctors informed there are 69 active cases in the city. Most of these cases are mild and the patients are presently in home isolation. Lucknow Health Education Officer, Yogesh Raghuvanshi further stated that the district authorities have cautioned regional areas, including Bihar, about the internal spike.
This will help concerned authorities to issue preventive protocols and prevent the spread through increased physical contact, added reports. The public is advised to take maximum precaution against the virus and cooperate with the administration, protocls and guidelines to flatten the curve of infection.
