Lucknow recorded a sustained COVID arrest on Friday with the daily infection tally below the 50-mark for the second consecutive day. According to the health bulletin of the state, at least 39 cases, including 20 women, tested coronavirus positive in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative tally to 57,439 cases. About 121 recoveries and 653 active cases were also reported in Lucknow on February 25.

Lucknow recorded fewer than 50 cases for the first time during the third wave on Thursday, with infection capped at 37 people, and continued the respite on Friday as well, with about 39 new infections. According to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Agarwal, this drop can be attributed to a higher recovery rate, without clinical intervention. On Friday only, about 121 were declared COVID negative in Lucknow. Most patients are now recovering at home, he added.
In wake of the same, Lucknow’s apex health facility, the King George’s Medical University has decided to increase the number of OPD (outpatient department) appointments at the hospital. This decision has been moved in wake of the lowering hospital occupancy by COVID patients. The hospital can now divert resources for non-COVID cases, which have suffered greatly due to the pandemic.

Now, the KGMU OPD will examine about 100 patients, including 50 new and 50 follow-ups in the super specialty department, followed by 200 patients, including 100 new and 100 follow-ups in the general departments. Earlier these numbers were capped at 75 patients in super specialty and 150 patients in general departments, added reports.
KGMU spokesperson Dr. Sudhir Singh said that further relaxations can be expected after experts assess the on-ground situation. The hospital will also encourage patients to use teleconsultation services of the KGMU to clear the backlog developed due to the pandemic.
