In a move to expand the parking facilities in the city, the district administration of Lucknow has come up with a new scheme. Under this initiative, citizens will be allowed to convert their vacant lands into parking spaces and earn through them. Besides improving the traffic situation in the city, this project will also usher in a new way of making money. While these facilities shall be maintained privately, the authorities have rolled out a list of rules and regulations for them.
Parking spaces to have a shed, chairs, drinking water & toilet facilities
The government had released a notification on July 25, fixing the terms and conditions for parking spaces and the upcoming centres will have to adhere to these norms. Under the provisions of this order, it has been stated that the operator will have to arrange for a shed, chairs, drinking water and toilet facilities at the parking lot.
Aiming to improve the parking system in the city, the Municipal Corporation has formulated ‘Parking Bylaws 2021’ and it has been approved by the executives. Now, citizens have been asked to raise their objections and suggestions regarding the provisions of this policy. After the recommendations are received, the rules will be implemented with approval from the state legislature. Post this, citizens will be allowed to operate their private parking spaces.
As per the available information, the municipal corporation will offer licenses for running these centres and the state officials will decide on the fee amount soon. Once the plans are settled formally, a notification comprising all the rules will be promulgated.
No-parking boards to be set up within 500 metres around the facility
It has been stated that all employees at the parking facility will ensure compliance with the dress code, fixed by the contractor. A photo identity card will be issued to them and a copy of that will also be submitted to the municipal corporation.
The receipt offered to the drivers will have the vehicle owner’s name, address, mobile number, vehicle number and time. In addition to this, no parking boards will be set up within 500 metres of the parking space. Further, the owners will have to set up a fee-board at the site, detailing the tariffs for different vehicles. They will be prohibited from charging an amount more than the prescribed limit.
