Ahmedabad: The Rising Cricket Capital of India

With a state-of-art stadium hosting significant international matches, Ahmedabad is on its way to becoming the new Cricket Capital of India.

Get ready, cricket enthusiasts! Ahmedabad is poised to claim its position as the new Cricket Capital of India, thanks to its magnificent Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium, and a string of prestigious world cup matches that are soon to be hosted here. The city has undergone significant developments in its cricket landscape, which has over time, solidified its position as the ultimate cricket destination in an already cricket crazy country.

Making waves in the cricket world

Ahmedabad, the city that stole the limelight with the grand inauguration of the renovated Narendra Modi Stadium in 2021, is now making waves in the cricket world. With each passing day, its reputation as the Indian Cricket Capital grows stronger. Formerly named after Sardar Patel, this colossal cricketing shrine sprawls over an impressive 63 acres, that can accommodate a staggering 1.32 lakh spectators. Adding to the city's triumph, in 2019, Jay Shah assumed the role of BCCI secretary, further fueling the development of Ahmedabad's cricket scene.

Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled the schedules and venues for upcoming events for the ICC World Cup 2023, and cricket aficionados in Ahmedabad couldn't contain their excitement. Brace yourselves, as the town will play host to some monumental clashes!

Prominent figures like Shashi Tharoor have acknowledged Ahmedabad's ascent as the new cricket capital of India. Yet, amidst the jubilation, some express disappointment over Kerala's exclusion from hosting any matches.

ICC World Cup matches to be hosted in Ahmedabad

Mark your calendars for the epic World Cup group match between India and Pakistan, scheduled for October 15, at the Narendra Modi Stadium. But that's not all—prepare for a thrilling grand finale on November 19, as well as the tournament opener between defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand on October 5.

The NaMo Stadium will also witness action-packed matches such as England versus Australia on November 4, and South Africa versus Afghanistan on November 10.

The significance of hosting these prestigious international matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium extends far beyond Ahmedabad's boundaries. It solidifies India's dominance in the cricketing realm, proudly showcasing the largest stadium in the world, surpassing even the mighty venues in Melbourne and London.
