Ahmedabad, along with several other cities in Gujarat, is grappling with a sharp rise in viral conjunctivitis cases which may be caused by the self-limiting adenovirus. The situation has become a cause for concern as medical facilities report an increasing number of patients seeking treatment.
LG Hospital has already admitted 100 patients with conjunctivitis, and an equal number of cases have been recorded at CH Nagri Municipal Eye Hospital. Meanwhile, the outdoor patient department (OPD) of GMERS Sola MCH and M&J Institute of Ophthalmology in Medicity have reported 50 and 40 cases, respectively.
The monsoon season might be a contributing factor to the outbreak, but medical experts are urging caution against relying on home remedies. Instead, they emphasize maintaining proper hygiene and seeking prescribed medications from qualified healthcare professionals. Those affected by the infection are strongly advised not to touch common surfaces and avoid unnecessary exposure to crowded places to prevent further spread.
