In a bid to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and safeguard the rights of voters, Mumbai Police has implemented stringent measures to regulate activities near polling stations on election day. In line with these efforts, the police have issued guidelines prohibiting the assembly of individuals within a 100-meter radius of polling stations. Scheduled for May 20, the six Lok Sabha constituencies, including Mumbai, will adhere to these regulations.
According to the directives laid out by Mumbai Police, only individuals directly involved in the electoral process will be allowed entry into the polling stations from 6 am until midnight.
Special voting process commences for election duty personnel
On the other hand, a specialised voting procedure for individuals on election duty has commenced this Sunday at multiple centers. This process enables government employees in Mumbai, including teachers and non-teaching staff, to cast their votes via postal ballots for the impending fifth phase of elections.
Initiatives to encourage voter participation
Moreover, in a concerted effort to incentivize voters, numerous public and private entities are extending various perks and discounts. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has announced that passengers commuting on Metro lines 2A and 7 will receive a 10 percent discount on their tickets.
Additionally, several hotels and restaurants throughout Mumbai have pledged to offer discounts ranging from 10 to 20 per cent to customers who present proof of having cast their vote on May 20.
