After witnessing the success of the Pink Force initiative, Goa is all set to get its first fleet of Pink Rickshaws! With the aim to offer self-employment opportunities to women, these auto-rickshaws will be operated by women drivers in the coastal state. The Goa government has paired up with the Rotary Club to drive this initiative boosting women’s empowerment across the state. Read on to know more about this women-centred development move that will soon be rolled out in Goa.
Women to get rickshaws via subsidy, loans or sponsorships
In the first phase, 14 women drivers will be given a chance to gain financial independence by taking up this self-employment opportunity.
“In future, there is one Rotary club project. Just like the Pink Force, there is the Pink Rickshaw project which the Rotary club is undertaking with the help of the Goa government’s EDC (Economic Development Corporation). Seventeen women are being trained,” said the Chief Minister.
Notably, EDC is a government agency which disburses loans for small and big businesses in the state. Women will be able to get the rickshaws at a subsidised price via the Economic Development Corporation of the Goa government. These Rickshaws can also be taken with the help of a loan through Chief Minister’s Rozgar Yojana or through Rotary Club sponsorship.
