Goa gets a new task force for revamping the state's public transport system

The newly formed group will work on delivering inventive solutions for problems related to urban mobility.

In response to the Centre's Transport4All challenge, the Goa government has formed a special task force to upgrade the transport infrastructure in the state. Focused on developing and delivering inventive solutions for problems related to urban mobility, the new team will work on measures for better and enhanced alternatives of commute. Notably, this project is being executed under the Smart Cities Mission, wherein the market participants, citizens and startups would together look for digital innovations.

Technological solutions to be rolled out on a pilot basis

Reportedly, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has been instructed to seek participation and support from the citizens' groups and NGOs for the Transport4All challenge. As per reports, an officer from the Directorate of Urban Development informed that the task force will find the issues after holding discussions with the various stakeholders. In a bid to address and resolve these problems, startups will be asked to work on comprehensive solutions.

As per reports, the vision is to devise such remedies that are beneficial for all the concerned parties. Besides, technological solutions will also be introduced through a pilot project, in a bid to assess their impact on an extensive roll out.

Launched by the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs for smart cities and state capitals, Transport4All targets digital innovation for revamping the transport system. As a part of this, smart cities and startups will be assisted in an array of fields, from developing the right solutions to amplifying them into workable measures. Reportedly, the new task force, led by Transport Director Rajan Satardekar, consists of multiple authorities from government organisations and transport associations.
