Delhi, East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh experienced lightning accompanied by gusty winds on Tuesday. Winds with slightly lower intensity, with speeds between 30 to 40 kmph, are expected to grace the isolated regions of UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Apart from these weather changes, lightning will be seen in isolated regions of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Konkan, Goa, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Onset of monsoon in Kerala from 3 June

As per reports, "The Western Disturbance as a trough in mid and upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 76 degree east to the north of latitude 28-degree north is also behind the changes." The weather department added that isolated and scattered rainfall and thunderstorm is likely in the Western Himalayan Region and nearby plains.

IMD indicated that as these changes will strengthen the southwesterly winds and there are high chances that rainfall activity over Kerala will be enhanced, thereby, the onset of monsoon in the state will be marked on June 3. Further, the reinforced lower-level southwesterly winds will cause heavy showers in part of the seven sisters' region for the coming five days.

There are also predictions about cyclonic circulation near the Karnataka coastline and the forecast included light rain and thunderstorm, with winds flowing at a speed between 30 to 40 kmph. Moreover, isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorm is expected over the remaining parts of the Southern Peninsula in the coming 4-5 days.
