Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) plans to build a 60-megawatt solar power plant in Maheshwar’s Jalud village. The decision was shared in a meeting last Friday, where IMC Commissioner Pratibha Pal presented the annual budget of ₹7,262 crores. The solar plant will be established within a budget of ₹100 crores. Provisions were also made for several other development projects that will take off this year.

As the electricity crises grow in the city, this new facility will be an addition to the West DISCOM which is already managing the electricity supply to ensure drinking water during summers. The Solar plant on the other hand will be used to facilitate the transportation of water from Mandeleshwar to Indore.
As per the officials, built on a 61-hectare piece of land, the project is expected to save over ₹300 crores on the annual electricity bill for the Indore Municipal Corporation. It is also expected that the plant will bring new employment opportunities to the area.

Apart from the power plant, the budget will also be utilised for other development projects in Indore. As per Indore Road Map 2021-2026, IMC will focus on developing urban infrastructure, improving traffic management, environmental protection, drinking water and etc.
About ₹20 crores will be spent on recharging the groundwater in Indore and the construction of two overhead water tanks will be built in the Palda area. Besides that ₹48 crores will be spent on the maintenance and rejuvenation of water bodies across the city. Similarly, a provision of ₹50 crores has been made for environmental conservation. At the last, 9000 houses will also be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at an estimated cost of ₹500 crores.
