Researchers at IIT Indore have rolled out a new app aimed at monitoring extreme weather events like droughts and heavy rainfall in India’s Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). Led by Professor Manish Kumar Goyal and his team, the app focuses on identifying areas at risk across India’s 600+ KBAs, which are crucial for preserving unique species and ecosystems.
With climate change increasing risks like floods and droughts, this tool will help conservationists track these challenges and make better-informed decisions. Regions like the Western Ghats and Himalayas are already under pressure, with climate shifts affecting both plant and animal life. As Suhas Joshi, IIT Indore’s director, pointed out, this application blends scientific research with practical solutions, playing a key role in strengthening biodiversity conservation and climate resilience in India’s most sensitive areas.
