The coronavirus infection threat has been contained in Indore to a major extent, given the gradual dip in the number of new and active cases in the city. The growth rate of transmission has been caged at 0.1%, reducing the rate of case emergence in the city, consequently diminishing the tallies of the active caseload. Buoyed by this virus limitation, the Department of Higher Education in Indore has decided to schedule college and university examinations, for the 2020-2021 batch, in the ‘pen and paper’ format.
State devised COVID-protocols to authorise exams in Indore
The Department of Higher Education has issued guidelines for the safe conduction of exams in the city. As per the department notification, offline exams will be held for first, second and third-year students of the undergraduate programmes and second and fourth-semester post-graduation students. The physical presence of students, in adherence to the guidelines set by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, State Government, Health Department and Higher Education to minimise the COVID spread.
The directives of this notification have also directed to increase the number of examination centres across the city to map safe distance between candidates. It also details that private institutes will also be rolled-in to increase the number of examination centres if need be. Similarly, government supervisors will be appointed in private colleges accordingly.
Internal assignments for non-terminal PG-batches
The Department of Higher Education has stated that PG students, in semester 1 and 3 would be promoted on the basis of internal exams and assignments. Colleges have been directed by the university to keep a record of these internal submissions. The procedure stands unaltered and will follow the 2019-2020 guidelines this year as well. That is, non-terminating batches of the MA, MCom, MSc and MHSc will be promoted to senior classes based on previous or internal performance. Complete 100% assessment will be based on internal exams including projects, assignments and practical work.
Similar guidelines will be followed for first year students in private colleges. The internal marks (assignment and projects) will be the premise of assessment. For third year students, evaluation will be done on the basis of both, previous term performance and internal exams of this session. Colleges and institutes have been permitted to set these internal evaluation papers.
