The Noorjahan mango variety is cultivated in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, located some 250 km from Indore, and locals trace its origin to Afghanistan. Owing to favourable weather conditions this year, the size and yield of this mango variety have been good as compared to last year. Therefore, this season, the rate of Noorjahan mangoes have skyrocketed with each piece being priced in the range of ₹500 to ₹1000.
Pre-orders received from different states
Grown only in the Katthiwada region of Alirajpur district, adjacent to the Gujarat border, Noorjahan mangoes are fetching high prices this year. A local mango cultivator informed that he has received advance bookings from mango-lovers living in Madhya Pradesh and in Gujarat. Known to grow up to a foot long with its kernels weighing between 150 to 200 grams, the Noorjahan mango variety has quite a captive audience who eagerly await its arrival, every June.
Charting sales of Noorjahan mango in past 3yrs
As per the latest reports, each Noorjahan mango is estimated to weigh between 2 kg to 3.5 kg as the weather has been quite conducive to its growth this time. Last year, the sales were hampered as the trees couldn’t flower properly because of the unfavourable climate.
It has also been noted that back in 2019, this mango variety registered similar skyrocketing prices as 2021. In 2019’s harvest, each piece of this mango variety weighed around 2.75 kg and buyers paid as high as ₹1200 for it.
