In a remarkable display of skill, two young swimmers from Kanpur city created a new record in long-distance swimming with their hands and feet tied. Adventure swimmers Pankaj Jain and Rohit Nishad, in an attempt to encourage players and swimmers, swam for about 7 km in River Ganges. A team of swimmers accompanied the two enthusiasts on a boat as a precautionary measure.
Encouraging swimmers’ talent in Kanpur
Pankaj and Rohit exhibited their swimming talent from Atal Ghat to Sarsaiyya Ghat. Prakash Awasthi, Vice President of UP Swimming Association informed that the two boys successfully covered the distance of 7 kilometres with their limbs tied with rope. This display has not only acquitted the swimmers with people’s praise and wonder but also has changed people’s perspective towards swimming- as an adventurous and thrilling sport.
On similar lines, Awasthi said the Kanpur District Swimming Association will organise a swimming event, in the memory of late Padam Kumar Jain, from Atal Ghat to Siddhanath Ghat. Long-distance expert swimmers will be invited to take part in this programme, to boost the image of the sport across the district as well as the state.
