The process of land acquisition has commenced for the upcoming 63-km-long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. This move will reduce traffic jams on this route and upon completion, the journey from Lucknow to Kanpur or vice versa, will be completed within just 50 minutes. The NHAI’s project director, mentioned that about 13-km of road from Lucknow’s Amausi to Bani would be elevated. The expressway will be connected to the proposed ring road in Kanpur.
The expressway will be equipped with six lanes
The NHAI’s project director further stated that the construction work of the expressway will start near the Shaheed Path and after this, Nawabganj will be connected with Kanpur via Banthra, Bani, Datouli and Kantha. The expressway, costing around ₹4,700 crore, will pass through 31 villages of Unnao and 11 villages of Lucknow. 440 hectares of land in Unnao villages and 20 hectares of land in Lucknow, is yet to be acquired. The upcoming expressway will pass through the villages of Sikanderpur, Behsa, Chilwan, Gehru, Gauri, Khandedev, Miranpur Pinvat, Natkur and Shahzadi Sarai, amidst others in Lucknow.
As per reports, the farmers will be compensated on the basis of circle rate. The Union Surface Transport Ministry has made a gazette to this effect. This fully traffic controlled expressway will save time for commuters and it will be equipped with six lanes. Two interchanges (loops) will also be constructed, during the development of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway. Along with these, one railway over-bridge will be constructed as well. Along with 38 underpasses, 3 major bridges and 28 smaller ones, will also be part of the expressway.
