Augmenting the count of vaccination sites in Lucknow, Aishbagh Eidgah located in the city’s Old Labour Colony is now being used as an inoculation centre. After a dry run was successfully conducted on Wednesday, the administration of immunity booster jabs began at the mosque, at 12 PM today. Individuals of all ages, above 18 will be able to get their vaccine doses at this centre, established at the ‘biggest’ Eidgah in the city.
A strong team of trained volunteers to assist individuals with the process
It has been stated that vaccine jabs will only be given to citizens who visit the centre with prior online registration and walk-in vaccination is not allowed here. Further, authorities at the Islamic Centre of India, which is circumscribed within the boundaries of the Eidgah, will assist the needy individuals in their registration process. Through a strong team of trained volunteers, it will be ensured that every willing individual is able to procure the benefit of inoculation.
Maulana Sufiyan Nizami, the representative of the Eidgah said, “The capacity at the centre for beneficiaries between 18 and 44 years of age is 150 a day and for those above 44 years of age, is 250 a day. Vaccination will however depend on registrations made in advance and people can select the Eidgah as their choice of centre on the online CoWin portal.”
Move towards spreading awareness and mitigating myths
Given the severity of the current circumstances, officials at the mosque led by the Eidgah Imam Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali decided to help the administration. In an attempt to strengthen the city’s combat against the pandemic, the authorities assured any possible aid that may help in alleviating the COVID situation. Thereby, the district officials marked the mosque as a vaccination centre, which is expected to benefit a large count of individuals now.
Further, the clerics believe that the conversion of a religious place into an immunisation site will help in busting myths and misconceptions amongst the deprived and illiterate in the society. Additionally, the mosque has also become a symbol of inspiration for other social and community spaces to follow suit and execute similar interventions.
