To draw in the film fraternity to the state capital, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has tasked itself with the development of Gulala Ghat as a movie shooting site. A decision to this effect has been undertaken by the executive committee and for the beautification work of the ghat, the authorities have sanctioned a budget of Rs 10 lakhs.
Gulala Ghat to be developed on the lines of the ghats in Varanasi
The Gulala Ghat is located in the old part of Lucknow and is better known as a cremation site. Now under the umbrella of this venture, the LMC will develop a green belt around the banks of the Gomti river and will forge a garden with an array of flowers and plants.
Lucknow’s Mayor, Sanyukta Bhatia, stated that the Gulala Ghat will be developed on the lines of the ghats in Varanasi and walls of the ghat will be painted with the images of Hindu Gods. Further, the mayor added that the first instalment for the project will be released in January 2021.
Efforts are on to curate picturesque locations around the city
This initiative has been embarked upon to back the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision of developing a mega film city in Noida to attract filmmakers to shoot in the state. Quite a number of films are being shot at different locales in the state capital and keeping that in view, efforts are on to curate picturesque locations around the city to increase its marketability.
Moreover, Uttar Pradesh has an incentive-based policy when it comes to filming in the state and it is definitely a reason for filmmakers to pitch a tent here. Back in February 2018, the UP government introduced a major change in the state’s filming policies and since then, the authorities have introduced a ton of subsidies and benefits along with it.
