The monsoon spell continues in Uttar Pradesh, though no heavy rain warnings have been issued for Thursday. After Tuesday’s showers in Lucknow, rainfall is expected to weaken over the next few days, with only light drizzles likely in the city and nearby areas. The monsoon trough has now shifted from southern UP towards the Terai belt, bringing chances of light to moderate rain in northern districts over the next three to four days.

Elsewhere in the state, Agra reported the highest rainfall at 121 mm, while Barabanki and Farrukhabad each recorded 70 mm. Despite these figures, the Met Department says chances of significant downpours in the coming days remain low.
Ghantaghar area submerged after brief downpour on Tuesday
Just 20 minutes of rainfall on Tuesday left parts of Old Lucknow’s heritage zone submerged, with Ghantaghar among the worst affected. Overflowing sewers and knee-deep water paralysed traffic, forcing pedestrians to wade through filthy floodwater. Municipal workers were seen unclogging drains without proper safety gear. Around 500 residents and several iconic local shops are directly affected.

According to the official IMD update, Lucknow is expected to see scattered showers today, with no alerts issued for thunderstorms or lightning. However, residents are advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
