According to statistics, a whopping 150 million smartphones are stolen in India every year. Often, victims of such theft or misfortune (in case you lost your smartphone somewhere) and don’t quite know where to look for help. But now, the Department of Telecom has launched a new website to report stolen smartphones that will help the victims block their mobile phones.
How will the website work?
The new website, which is now available all over the country, requires the user to submit a few details about the lost phone such as:

IMEI number of the lost phone

Mobile number of the SIM card present on the lost phone

Purchase bill details

Details of the smartphone owner

Digital copy of the FIR registered at the nearest police station
Once the user has submitted all the details, an OTP will be sent on an active mobile number to complete the verification. With this, the stolen phone will be added to a central database and subsequently blocked whenever anyone attempts to use it.
Users will have to unblock found phones to use it
In case the lost phone is found by the original owner, the user will have to visit the CEIR website again and unblock the phone in order to start using it. Now that the entire procedure will be carried out on one website and a few simple steps, this new smartphone theft portal will make it significantly convenient for victims of theft to take swift action.
