In an attempt to boost the sports infrastructure in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has resolved to establish wrestling academies in Lucknow and Noida, at par with international standards. As per the plans, the Lucknow institute shall come up over an expanse of 2 acres in the Awadh Vihar region. Hosting wrestlers from India and abroad, the academies will be equipped with globally acclaimed facilities, for sound and sufficient training of the sportspersons.
Academies to house a comprehensive range of facilities
Stepping ahead with the plans, the Wrestling Federation of India has collaborated with the government and started preparations for this project. Resourced with international-level amenities, these centres will have qualified and experienced trainers, from both national and abroad circuits. According to the available information, the academies will be completely indoors with 4 mats each. Besides, residential facilities will also be provided to the players.
Assuring a gamut of facilities, the institutes would encapsulate a gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment, sauna bath and steam bath areas, massage centres and an extensive mess. Notably, halls with well-maintained seating areas will be established for conducting competitions and tournaments.
Uttar Pradesh to transform into the nation’s wrestling hub
It has been informed that the officials of the Sports Department and the wrestling organisation will together chalk out a detailed action plan for developing these academies. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the President of the Wrestling Federation of India, affirmed that Uttar Pradesh is all set to transform into the wrestling hub of the country, once the two academies are set up. These two centres will benefit wrestlers from the state, helping them to become professional players.
In addition to this, individuals participating in the national camps will also be advantaged. Once the camps are over, they will be able to continue their training domestically, with the help of these institutes.
